With the ARKimedes regulation, the Flemish government has set up an investment program that activates venture capital to promote innovation, employment and quality of life through collaborations with recognized venture capitalists. Today, there are two ARKimedes funds. The first, ARKimedes-Fonds nv, was established on 8 June 2005 by ARKimedes Management nv (a 100% subsidiary of ParticipatieMaatschappij Vlaanderen nv with a fund size of EUR 111.1 million). On 4 June 2010 a second fund, ARKimedes-Fonds II nv, was established with a fund size of EUR 100 million.
After the first Arkiv-recognition with the Gimv Arkiv Technology Fund in 2006, Gimv received a second Arkiv-recognition in 2011 and launched the Gimv Arkiv Tech Fund II. This partnership focuses on early-to midstage equity investments in Flemish SMEs operating in the ICT and cleantech sector. The fund size is EUR 25 million: EUR 12 million from the ARKimedes-fund II and EUR 13 million from Gimv.
