Together with the GIMV ARKIV ICT FUND and the existing shareholders, GIMV is investing in the Flemish ICT company Aventiv located in Ghent. Aventiv develops and commercialises Nomadisk®, software that allows company employees to store, share and work on documents in a very user-friendly way and in complete security over the Internet.
The capital is being used to further strengthen the management team, to launch Nomadisk® internationally and to speed up R&D. In order to do so Aventiv appointed Bruno Segers, former Director of Microsoft Belgium, as Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Aventiv (www.aventiv.com) was set up in 2004 by its CEO Filip Tack, Miguel De Buf and Peter Geldhof. It aims to provide user-friendly and secure support for the information flows between company employees. In this context Aventiv develops and sells Nomadisk® (www.nomadisk.com) software enabling simple and secure collaboration and document storage over the Internet. Nomadisk® is differentiated by its user-friendliness, its security, its
performance and its price. Its transparent integration with the Microsoft Windows® user interface and with the Internet means that the user’s learning curve is virtually flat. Its rigid security prevents company documents from falling into the wrong hands.

In May of 2005 Aventiv was awarded in Bizidee’s business plan competition, and closed a seed capital financing round with the aid of BAN (Business Angels Network) Flanders, IWT (an institute for the encouragement of innovation through science and technology in Flanders) and the Participatiefonds (a co-investment government initiative). Nomadisk® was launched in 2006. Aventiv’s client base consists of a rapidly growing number of SMEs and multinationals.

First investment GIMV ARKIV ICT Fund

Aventiv is the first investment of the GIMV ARKIV ICT Fund, one of the eleven Arkimedes funds recognized by the Flemish government that have been set up in order to channel the flow of venture capital towards strong growing Flemish start-ups and SMBs. GIMV ARKIV ICT Fund is being managed by GIMV.

‘GIMV’s participation confirms the trust placed in our product and business strategy. It not only gives us the means of realising our strategy, but it also helps us to win the trust of the indirect sales channels that should help us accelerate our market penetration all over the world,’ says Filip Tack, CEO Aventiv. ‘We are also very pleased with the appointment of Bruno Segers as our Chairman. We believe that under his supervision Aventiv can grow into an important and innovative player on the market’.

‘With Nomadisk® we have become a player on the “team collaboration” solutions market. This is undeniably a growth market, estimated by Gartner to be worth US$ 1.3 billion by 2009. Groupware solutions have until now mainly been confined to big businesses. We are convinced that the fastest growth can come from the many SMEs all over the world. The beauty of Nomadisk® lies in its simplicity,’ concludes Bruno Segers, the new Chairman of Aventiv.
