Tom Van de Voorde, Managing Partner - Head Smart Industries

Tom Van de Voorde reinforced the Gimv-team in 2007, first in Buyouts & Growth Belgium, where he realized several management buyouts and investments in growth companies and consequently within Smart Industries Platform. Today he is responsible for Gimv’s Smart Industries platform, focused on investments in technology/engineering with value creation as a result.

He gained valuable experience in investment banking at Bank Degroof, where he worked as Vice President Investment Banking & Private Equity and Advisory at NIBC in Brussels as head of M & A.

He is a member of the board of directors of Cegeka, Mega, Summa, Grandeco and Impression International and realized following exits since 2014: Trustteam, Xeikon, Hecht, Luciad and Vandemoortele.

Tom Van de Voorde holds a Master’s degree in Commercial Engineering from the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and a fulltime MBA from the University of Chicago (Booth).

Prior to joining Gimv in 2015 as a Partner in the Smart Industries Team Ronald Bartel has worked at different companies in the power transmission as well as materials handling industries. At last he was Global Director at Columbus McKinnon Corporation, where he was heading and developing the newly established Motion Technology Business Unit with its brands Pfaff-silberblau and Duff-Norton. Before that Ronald was Sales Director at Flender – today a division of Siemens – for Industrial Drive Applications preceded by an engagement at Demag Cranes, here amongst others for five years in Shanghai as Deputy General Manager of its Chinese operations developing in the early 2000’s the company’s footprint in a very dynamically growing market.
Ronald has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Hannover and an Executive MBA from Rutgers, New Jersey.

Nicolas studied Business Engineering at University of Ghent and attained a Master in Financial Management at Vlerick Business School. He also passed level 1 and 2 of the CFA curriculum.

Prior to joining Gimv, Lisa gained extensive experience as a project manager in Corporate M&A roles for Commerzbank and Munich Re, where she successfully executed numerous buy- and sell-side transactions across Europe and was responsible for various group-wide strategic business realignment projects.

Lisa holds a MSc. in Business & Law as well as a BSc. in General Management from EBS University of Business and Law (Oestrich-Winkel) in Germany.

Nick Medaer (°1984) joined Gimv in 2011. He started his career within the Transaction Advisory Services department at EY. In this function, he specialized in financial due diligence assignments. Muriel joined Gimv in 2013 and is currently responsible for the Arkiv fund of Gimv. Gimv Arkiv Tech Fund II has an investment focus on innovative early stage companies active in ICT and Cleantech.  

Throughout her career, Muriel Uytterhaegen has developed, analyzed or challenged dozens of business plans and closed multiple deals. Currently Muriel is a board member at Nomadesk and Coscale, she is an observer in the board of Real Impact Analytics.

Muriel has over 15 years of experience in innovation management, technology transfer, venture capital and the growth of high-tech startups.

Before she worked as an Investment Manager for the Flemish Innovation Fund (VINNOF), a seed capital fund that invests in young innovative companies in Flanders. As Senior Investment Manager she was responsible for ICT and board member of the portfolio companies in that sector (Caliopa, CMOSIS, Dacentec, NMDG, Oxynade, ...).

Muriel Uytterhaegen holds a master's degree in Business Economics from the University of Ghent and an MBA from the Vlerick Leuven Ghent Management School.

Prior to joining Gimv, Roland worked at Credit Suisse as a member of the EMEA Consumer & Retail team in London, where he advised on M&A, IPO and financing transactions. Prior to Credit Suisse, Roland completed internships at Heineken (Congo) and Air France KLM (Argentina).

Roland holds a MSc. in Financial Economics from the Erasmus School of Economics (Rotterdam) and a BSc. in International Business Administration from the VU University (Amsterdam) in the Netherlands.

Friedrich joined the Gimv Smart Industries team in 2018.

Prior to this, he worked in London first at JP Morgan as a commodity trader with a specialisation in industrial metals, and laterally as an M&A and merchant banker for PMB Capital. In this role, he worked closely with entrepreneurs and family owned businesses in German-speaking Europe to develop long-term and sustainable financing solutions (both debt & equity), often working with complex capital structures.

Friedrich obtained a BA (Hons) in Economics & International Relations (Lancaster University Management School), an LL.M in Law & Economics (Universiteit Rotterdam, Universität Hamburg, UC Berkeley), as well as an M.A. in Christian Theology (University of London).
