Strategy

Gimv is setting out to become a significant cleantech venture capitalist. Gimv prefers to lead or co-lead investment rounds, targeting mainly European countries. Gimv’s international network of investment specialist and industry experts is vital in establishing a balanced cleantech portfolio. Bringing together the required expertise in a separate Cleantech division allows Gimv to attune investment practices to the cleantech sector’s specific needs.

The investment focus is on young technology companies that are eager to become market leaders in:

  • new forms of energy, e.g. renewable energy, fuel processing, energy storage and conversion
  • innovative materials that disruptively improve operational performance and efficiency while reducing costs, energy consumption or waste (or reducing the need of resources in a wider range), e.g. functional coatings or conductive polymers enabling renewable energies, filter materials, enzymes, recovery of high value materials
  • water processing and purification technologies, e.g. wastewater treatment, robust membrane filtration, sludge disintegration

Gimv prefers a divestment horizon of four to seven years on average, making investments that range from EUR 0.5 million to EUR 25 million.

The Gimv Cleantech team combines sector-specific know-how with financial acumen. As groundbreaking technologies are at the heart of the business, they develop a clear understanding of the technologies involved and the cleantech sector’s specific dynamics. To help investee companies turn promising technologies into viable products and services and to support their growth, Gimv Cleantech can rely on the expertise of Gimv’s worldwide network of experts and its excellent track record and expertise in venture capital
