Gimv’s Life Sciences division targets innovative biotech companies that are developing first-in-class or best-in-class products for growth markets. Investments have been made in various areas, including therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics and services.

Gimv’s characteristic long-term approach is particularly valuable in the capital-intensive biotech sector, which is marked by cyclical fluctuations. The period between the initial investment and exit is often long and unpredictable. To maximize return on investment and create short and long-term value for the companies we invest in, Gimv Life Sciences is committed to active involvement at the level of the Board of Directors.

Investing in an industry that is international by nature, Gimv Life Sciences has always opted for a geographically balanced portfolio, with a clear European focus. To ensure optimal risk distribution in the relatively small and highly volatile biotech sector, Gimv Life Sciences has put together a diversified portfolio, consisting of a variety of innovative biotech companies.

In addition, Gimv Life Sciences manages the Biotech Fonds Vlaanderen, at the request of the Flemish Region. The Biotech Fonds Vlaanderen was set up in 1994 to provide venture capital to existing and starting medium and large sized companies in the Flemish biotechnology sector. The fund’s remit includes attracting new biotech companies to start or develop activities in Flanders. In this way, the fund is placing Flanders on the world map of scientific research and industrial development.
