Marc Descheemaecker obtained a degree in Applied Economics from UFSIA University of Antwerp in 1977. In 1978 he completed his studies at the College of Europe in Bruges where he obtained a postgraduate degree in European Economics.
Marc Descheemaecker was CEO of SNCB (National Company of Belgian Railways) from 2004 to 2013 and was Chairman of the Board of BAC (Brussels Airport Company) from 2013 to May 2021. From January 2017 to May 2021, Marc Descheemaecker was a member of the board of directors of SNCB.
Currently Marc Descheemaecker is chairman of the board of directors of De Lijn and Lijncom and is a member of the board of directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF). He is also a member of the board of directors of Ethias and a director at Lantis.
Marc Descheemaecker is a member of the board of directors of Gimv since October 2014.
