Marc Descheemaecker obtained in 1977 a master's in Applied Economics from UFSIA (University of Antwerp). In 1978, he completed his studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, where he obtained a postgraduate degree in European Economics.
Marc Descheemaecker was CEO of the NMBS (Belgian national railroad company) from 2004 till 2013. After a first period from January 2017 until May 2021 being a member of the board of directors of NMBS, Marc rejoined the board of directors of NMBS in the fall of 2022. Next to that, Marc is currently chairman of the board of directors of Lantis, chairman of Lijncom, vicechairman of the board of directors of De Lijn (after being chairman from 2016 until early 2022), member of the board of directors of Lijncom and Ethias and member of the advisory board of Ecorys.
Previously, he was among others chairman of the board of directors of BAC (Brussels Airport Company) (2013 – 2021) and member of the board of directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB) (2015 – 2022) and the European Investment Fund (EIF) (2016 – 2022).
Marc Descheemaecker has been a member of Gimv's board of directors since October 2014.
