A responsible company

Gimv acknowledges its responsibility to lead by example in addressing Environmental (E), Social (S) and Governance (G) related matters.

This includes Gimv’s direct ecological footprint, Gimv’s role as a responsible and forward-thinking employer, and the extent to which Gimv applies the principles of corporate governance and business ethics.

A sustainable investor

Gimv addresses with its investment focus and strategy important societal challenges while generating competitive returns for its investors. Companies leading the way with sustainable solutions in addressing societal challenges, such as climate change and an ageing population, have a significant advantage.

To this end, Gimv has integrated sustainability throughout its entire investment process. The focus of Gimv's efforts in this area is during the holding period. It is Gimv's ambition as an active sustainable investor to bring the maturity level in the field of sustainability of its portfolio companies to the next level during its holding period.

Gimv’s role is to help our companies improve their ESG maturity as an essential part of their futureproofness.

In 2022, Gimv has adopted a formal climate plan encompassing Gimv's ambition to achieve a maximum carbon reduction by 2030. This plan consists of 3 logic domains where Gimv as a responsible company can work on to realize this ambition.

As per March 31st, 2024, Gimv has achieved a reduction of its Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions of more than 40% compared to the first measurement in 2020. In July 2024, the board of directors of Gimv approved an update of the climate plan, setting a more ambitious target of -70% of Gimv's Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 2030, compared to initial measurements in 2020.

Moreover, since 2023, Gimv reports its sustainability data to CDP. In doing so, Gimv endorses CDP's mission that transparency is the key to action and change.

Responsible Investing Policy

Gimv conducts on a periodic basis an elaborate portfolio-wide ESG survey to assess the maturity level related to how ESG is managed within the portfolio companies and to collect information on a number of relevant ESG-related quantitative parameters.

Since 2021, Gimv is a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) initiative, an international network created with the goal to understand the implications of sustainability for investors and support signatories to facilitate incorporating sustainability into their investment decision-making and ownership practices.

The annual survey is an example of the practical support. It helps us to gain a good understanding of our performance and the areas in which we can improve.

In the context of Gimv’s ambition to establish an active dialogue and interaction with ESG rating agencies, Gimv conducts since 2021 a periodic extensive rating exercise together with Sustainalytics. Today, Gimv has an ESG rating of 10.1 representing a very low ESG risk.

Gimv is proud to have been identified for three consecutive years as an Industry and Regional top ESG performer out of more than 4,000 comprehensive companies globally covered by Sustainalytics.

Gimv’s consecutive low ESG risk ratings from Sustainalytics did not only merit a Sustainalytics Industry and Region top rated badge but also a place in the Euronext BEL® ESG index. This recognition represents an important milestone in our ESG journey.

Matching the sustainability of our funding and our portfolio

In February 2021, Gimv developed the Gimv Sustainable Finance Framework under which Gimv can issue sustainable finance instruments allowing Gimv to match its funding with its strategy as a sustainable private equity investor.

The alignment of the framework with the ICMA 2018 Green Bond Principles, the 2020 Social Bond Principles, the 2018 Sustainability Bond Guidelines and the LMA 2020 Green Loan Principles was validated by Sustainalytics via the issue of a second party opinion.
